N-(2-Aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane, often abbreviated as APTES, is an organosilane coupling agent that contains both amino (-NH₂) and alkoxysilane (-Si(OR)₃) groups in its structure.
APTES has a molecular structure with three main components:
Aminoethyl group (-CH₂CH₂NH₂): Provides amine functionality, making it reactive towards various substrates.
Aminopropyl group (-CH₂CH₂CH₂NH₂): Offers additional amine functionality for coupling reactions.
Trimethoxysilane group (-Si(OMe)₃): Is hydrolysable, allowing it to bond strongly to inorganic surfaces such as glass, metals, and silica.

1. It is used in 1-part and 2-part silicone-crosslinked/polysulfide sealants to improve the adhesion to a variety of substrates, including glass, steel, aluminum and concrete.
2. Applied to phenolic and epoxy model plastics, N-(2-Aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane can reduce the water absorption rate of molding composite materials, improve the wet electrical properties of products at low frequencies, and increase the temperature resistance strength.
3. Used in phenolic resin adhesives to improve moisture resistance and resilience after compression.
4. Applied to the coating system to improve the adhesion between the coating and the coating surface.
