3-Mercaptopropyltriethoxysilane is a chemical compound belonging to the organosilane group. Its chemical structure consists of a three-carbon chain with a thiol (-SH) group at one end and three ethoxy groups (CH₃CH₂O-) attached to a silicon atom at the other end. This structure makes it similar to 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane but with ethoxy groups (CH₃CH₂O-) instead of methoxy groups (OCH₃).

1. The 3-Mercaptopropyltriethoxysilane has sulfhydryl-base function groups and has special efficiency when being antirust of metal surface. By using it to dispose metal surface (eg. gold, silver, copper) , can strengthen its surface to be anti-corrosive, anti-oxidant and improve the sticking property between organic polymer and the base.
2. In the rubber industry, 3-Mercaptopropyltriethoxysilane is usually used to deal with inorganic filling, including silica, carbon black, fiberglass and mica, etc., Which can effectively improve mechanic performance and wear-resisting performance of the rubber.
3. In textile industry, it can be used in the shrink proof finishing of fabric.
