Vinyltrimethoxysilane is an organosilane compound with the chemical formula CH₂=CHSi(OCH₃)₃. It contains a vinyl group (-CH=CH₂) attached to a silicon atom with three methoxy groups (-OCH₃).
key aspects of vinyltrimethoxysilane:
Vinyl Group (-CH=CH₂): Provides the vinyl functionality, enabling it to undergo various reactions including polymerization and crosslinking.
Trimethoxysilane Group (-Si(OCH₃)₃): Contains three methoxy (-OCH₃) groups that can undergo hydrolysis to form silanol groups for adhesion and bonding.

1.Vinyltrimethoxysilane is used in the preparation of moisture-curing polymers(e.g. polyethylene).
2.It is used as an efficient adhesion promoter for various mineral-filled polymers, improving mechanical and electrical properties especially after exposure to moisture.
3.It is used as modifier of polymer dispersions (e.g. styrene acrylics). After modification the dispersions show improved adhesion strength in wet conditions and wet scrub resistance.
4.Vinyltrimethoxysilane is widely used as moisture scavenger in sealants, because it reacts rapidly with water.
